Asus ROG Strix G18 CU9 290HX Plus RTX 5070Ti Review: Fast-Refresh Gaming at 2.5K

The Asus ROG Strix G18 CU9 290HX Plus RTX 5070Ti pairs a genuinely fast 300Hz display with a capable RTX 5070 Ti GPU, aiming squarely at gamers who value smooth, responsive visuals as much as raw graphical horsepower.

Display

The 18 inch ROG Nebula HDR Display offers 2.5K (2560 x 1600, WQXGA) resolution in a 16:10 aspect ratio, running at an exceptionally fast 300Hz refresh rate. With 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage, 1600 nits of peak brightness, G-Sync support, Pantone validation, and Dolby Vision HDR, this panel prioritizes fluid, responsive motion without sacrificing color accuracy, backed by an anti-glare, low-reflection coating for use in bright rooms.

Gaming Performance

Driving this machine is the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor alongside the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 12GB GDDR7 GPU, capable of boosting to 1565MHz at up to 140W with ROG Boost and Dynamic Boost combined. This pairing comfortably handles current AAA titles at high settings and native 2.5K resolution, while the 300Hz refresh rate gives competitive and fast-paced games a genuinely smooth edge. 32GB of DDR5-5600 RAM (expandable up to 64GB) and a 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD round out a well-balanced, high-performance configuration.

Battery, Ports and Connectivity

A 90Whr battery paired with a 280W adapter supports this system’s demanding hardware. Connectivity includes two Thunderbolt 5 ports supporting DisplayPort, power delivery, and G-Sync at up to 120Gbps, three USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a 2.5G LAN port for stable wired play, and HDMI 2.1. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 cover wireless connectivity.

Audio, Lighting and Build

Audio is handled by a 4-speaker system with Smart Amp Technology and Dolby Atmos, backed by AI noise-canceling on the microphone array and Hi-Res certification for wired headphones. The per-key RGB backlit keyboard pairs with Aura Sync lighting, including an illuminated light bar and ROG logo, for the customizable look ROG laptops are known for. At 3.20kg and backed by a 2-year warranty, it’s built for serious desk-based gaming sessions.
