HP HyperX OMEN 15 Gaming Laptop Review: Smooth 165Hz Esports & Daily Performance

For competitive esports enthusiasts and daily power users, having a fast display paired with responsive graphics is essential. The HP HyperX OMEN 15 Ryzen 5 240 RTX 5050 brings together modern processing, dynamic audio tuning, and a high-refresh screen inside a streamlined 15.3-inch chassis, offering high performance for gaming and everyday workloads.

🖥️ Display & Visual Experience

The visual focal point of this machine is its 15.3-inch 2K IPS display featuring a rapid 165Hz refresh rate. Visuals appear sharp and detailed, while motion fluidity is kept silky smooth—a key advantage when tracking fast-moving targets in competitive first-person shooters. The micro-edge anti-glare screen reduces reflections in brightly lit rooms, while wide IPS viewing angles ensure colors stay true regardless of how you position the screen.

⚡ Raw Performance & Gaming Capability

Driving core operations is the AMD Ryzen 5 240 processor, featuring 6 cores and 12 threads with boost clock speeds up to 5.0 GHz. It offers efficient multi-threaded speed for running modern games, web browser tabs, voice communication apps, and office programs simultaneously.

Graphics capabilities are handled by the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPU with 8GB of dedicated GDDR7 VRAM. This GPU delivers fluid frame rates at 1080p and 2K resolutions in popular esports titles while supporting AI frame generation and ray-traced visuals. Complemented by 16GB of fast DDR5 memory and a 512GB NVMe solid-state drive, system boot-ups and game load sequences execute rapidly.

🌡️ Thermals, Noise & Build Quality

To maintain thermal stability during long gaming sessions, HP integrates OMEN Tempest Cooling technology. Utilizing multi-directional airflow channels, dual fans, and optimized ventilation grilles, the thermal system effectively dissipates heat from the internal components. The chassis is finished in a clean Shadow Black aesthetic with a full-sized backlit keyboard featuring anti-ghosting key technology for precise input accuracy.

🔋 Battery Life & Everyday Usability

Equipped with a 70Wh battery, the laptop offers reliable unplugged usage for standard productivity, video streaming, and web browsing. With fast-charging support, you can quickly top up the battery level when time is limited. Integrated DTS:X Ultra audio co-tuned with HyperX delivers rich sound, while a built-in 1080p FHD camera ensures clear video call quality for remote work or study.
