Asus ROG Strix G16 G614FP Review: A Fast 240Hz Display Paired with Serious CPU Power

The Asus ROG Strix G16 G614FP pairs a 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX processor with an RTX 5070 8GB GPU and a 16 inch 2.5K display running at 240Hz, aimed at gamers who want both high resolution and high refresh rate without compromise.

Display

The 16 inch 2.5K (2560 x 1600, WQXGA) IPS-level display runs at a fast 240Hz refresh rate with a 16:10 aspect ratio, 100 percent DCI-P3 color coverage, a 3ms response time, an anti-glare finish, and Pantone validation. That combination keeps fast-moving games looking smooth while still offering enough resolution and color accuracy for everyday use and content viewing.

Gaming Performance

At the core is the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX processor, a 16 core, 32 thread chip running at 2.5GHz base and boosting up to 5.4GHz, backed by a substantial 80MB of cache. Paired with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7 GPU, boosting to 1475MHz at up to 115W with ROG Boost and Dynamic Boost, this combination comfortably handles current AAA titles at high settings and native 2.5K resolution. 16GB of DDR5-5600 RAM covers current games well, with a second slot available to expand up to 64GB total, and the 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD offers fast load times.

Battery, Ports and Connectivity

A 90Whr battery paired with a 280W adapter supports this system’s demanding hardware. Connectivity includes two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, two USB4 Type-C ports supporting DisplayPort and power delivery, HDMI 2.1, an RJ45 Ethernet port, and a 3.5mm combo jack. Wireless connectivity is handled by Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Design, Audio and Build

The per-key RGB backlit keyboard offers full lighting customization for gamers who want it, and audio comes from a 2-speaker system with Smart Amp Technology, Dolby Atmos, AI noise-canceling, and Hi-Res certification for wired headphones. Finished in Eclipse Gray, the chassis weighs 2.50kg, a reasonable weight for a 16 inch gaming laptop with this level of performance.
